Services
Re-roofs, roof repairs, guttering and fascias, and chimney repairs, mostly on the Victorian terraces and stone cottages of Halifax and the Calder Valley.
Re-roofs
A re-roof means stripping the old covering back and laying the roof again, rather than patching it one more time. On older terraces and cottages it can be the sensible choice when repairs keep coming back, or when the covering as a whole has reached the end of its life.
We re-roof the Victorian terraces and stone cottages that make up most of our work.
Signs a re-roof may be worth considering
- Slates or stones slipping in more than one place
- Damp patches in the loft or upstairs ceilings after rain
- Daylight showing through the roof from inside the loft
- Repairs that keep needing to be done again
Roof repairs
Not every leak needs a new roof. Many problems on an older roof come down to a few slipped or broken slates, a cracked stone, a lifted ridge or worn flashing.
We carry out roof repairs on terraces and cottages across Halifax and the Calder Valley.
Signs a repair may be needed
- A drip or a stain on the ceiling after heavy rain
- Pieces of slate or stone in the garden or the gutter
- A ridge line that has started to dip or lose its mortar
- Gaps in the courses where a slate has slid out
Guttering and fascias
Gutters and fascias take every drop that runs off the roof. When a gutter sags, leaks at the joints or overflows, the water ends up running down the walls instead, and on stone and brick houses that shows as damp and staining.
We repair and replace guttering and fascias, so rainwater is carried off the roof and away from the house.
Signs your gutters need attention
- Water spilling over the gutter edge when it rains
- Dripping joints, or green streaks down the wall
- Fascia boards that are soft, split or flaking
- Gutters pulling away from their brackets
Chimney repairs
Chimney stacks take the worst of the weather, standing proud of the roof on every side. Over time the pointing wears, pots crack, and the flashing where the stack meets the roof can start to let water in.
We carry out chimney repairs on terraced houses and stone cottages.
Signs a chimney needs looking at
- Crumbling mortar between the stones or bricks
- Cracked or loose chimney pots
- Damp on the chimney breast inside the house
- A stack that looks out of line
